About this course

The Double Major Degree will offer students the opportunity to specialise in any two major academic disciplines and will encourage a multidisciplinary educational and intellectual focus; it will equip students with the transferable skills of a liberal arts education for successful careers in the rapidly changing environment of the 21st century. Graduates from this programme will be suitable employees in both the public and private sectors in Singapore and beyond. Key combinations of disciplines will also facilitate comparative intellectual insights and nourish a mature capacity to engage different perspectives, research approaches, and interpretive strategies.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants with qualifications as deemed fit by the university (based on their online application) may be required to sit for an NTU Entrance Examination before a final decision on admission can be made. 

Prerequisites for this course are:  A good grade in Additional Mathematics at Junior High School Level / Mathematics at IB Standard Level and A good grade in English at Senior High School Level / IB Standard Level

Course Modules

To graduate, students are required to complete 137 academic units (AUs) from the General Education Requirements (GER) and Major Prescribed Electives groups of both respective majors apart from the core courses of the same.

Psychology Core: (15 + 8 AUs)

  • HP1000 Introduction to Psychology
  • HP1100 Fundamentals of Social Science Research
  • HP2100 Research Design and Data Analysis in Psychology
  • HP2400 Social Psychology
  • HP2600 Cognitive Psychology

Media Core: (15 AUs)

  • CS2008 Fundamentals of Research
  • CS2400 Foundation of Information Analytics
  • CS2401 Information Analytics: Tools, Techniques and Technologies
  • CS0209 Media Law, Ethics, & Policy
  • CS2402 Data Mining (In the process of seeking DAP(UE) approval

Psychology Prescribed Electives: (35 AUs)

Ideally a student is required to do 10 psychology electives

  • Minimum two level 2000 courses [6 AUs]
  • Choose two out of four: 
    • HP2200 Biological Psychology
    • HP2300 Developmental Psychology
    • HP2500 Personality and Individual Differences
    • HP2700 Abnormal Psychology
  • Minimum two level 3000 courses [6 AUs]
  • Minimum three level 4000 level courses [12 AUs], at least one of the 4000 level courses must be a laboratory course  
  • Remaining 11 AUs from level 2000/3000/4000 courses

Media Prescribed Electives: (35-37 AUs)

A student must complete 5 electives each from both groups of prescribed electives:

  • Methods Group 5 courses: 18-19 AUs
  • Conceptual group 5 courses: 17-18 AUs

GER Core: (9 AUs)

Students choose 2 courses from 3 categories of studies with at least 1 course in each category:

  • Science, Technology and Society (STS)
  • Business and Management (BM)

Free Electives: (15 AUs)

Students may fulfill the remaining AUs from any school.
