About this course

Embracing the study of the most basic natural laws, physics explains how and why things work on scales ranging from the sub-nuclear, through the everyday, and on to the entire cosmos. As a physicist, one will explore and identify basic principles governing the structure and behaviour of matter, the generation and transfer of energy, and the interaction of matter and energy.

The students may choose to use these principles in theoretical or experimental studies on topics such as the nature of time and the origin of the Universe; or alternatively, may apply their physics knowledge to practical areas, developing advanced materials, electronic and optical devices, and equipment for a wide range of fields such as medicine, mining, astronomy and geophysics.

Physicists engage in a wide range of exciting and rewarding careers across many industries in both the public and private sectors. Other physicists take a higher degree and work in research and development; undertaking fundamental research to increase scientific knowledge, or applied research to develop new devices, products or processes.

Eligibility Criteria

English language requirement:

  • At least 6.5 overall and a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-band of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent test.
  • Study Abroad and Incoming Exchange students are only required to meet the overall score (eg 6.5 IELTS or 87 TOEFL or 64 PTE( Pearson Test of English )).

Academic Requirement:

  •  For Australian students:

          OP/Entry Rank 2016:3/95

  •  For International students:

          1) Equivalent of Qld Senior Maths B, English, plus two of Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Maths C, or Physics.

          2)At least 6.5 overall and a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-band of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent test.

               Study Abroad and Incoming Exchange students are only required to meet the overall score (eg 6.5 IELTS or 87 TOEFL or 64 PTE( Pearson Test of English )).
