About this course

This pre-service teacher education program is available only as a dual degree. Students completing a dual degree have the opportunity to complete two degrees in less time than if each was studied separately. The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) offers school based learning and draws on the latest research into effective teaching, ensuring graduates are well equipped to teach. Students completing a dual degree with education are prepared for secondary school teaching, or training in business or industry. Teaching is a challenging and rewarding career, with secondary school teachers in demand worldwide. Teaching areas include Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian), drama, economics, English, English as a second language, European languages (French, German, Spanish), geography, history, mathematics, media studies, music, learning support, studies in religion and study of society.

This major will help students appreciate the unique way that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people see the world. Students will gain a deep understanding of Indigenous perspectives on everyday life in Australia today as well as on the major social, economic and political events and processes in Australia's history. Students will gain knowledge from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teachers first-hand as well as from non-Indigenous staff who work closely with Indigenous communities.
