About this course

Asian Area Studies introduces you to the history and culture of a variety of Asian societies. You can explore literary and religious traditions, as well as gender relations in Asian cultures. Language instruction courses are offered in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Persian, and Indonesian.

Eligibility Criteria

You can come directly from secondary school (including, for example, Gymnasium, International Baccalaureate or British-Patterned Education) or may transfer to UBC after one or two years at another accredited institution. International Students in the Faculty of Forestry can apply for the Co-op work placements or our exchange programs in the faculty.

12 credits: ASIA 300-level or higher (this may include up to 6 credits of CLCH or JAPN 422/423)
9 credits: ASIA 400-level
Total language credits: 12

12 credits: any ONE language offered in the department
ASIA or Language Option credits: 6

6 credits: ASIA 300-level or higher and/or 300-level or higher in the SAME language of study
