It was a bright day and the ambiance was very cold, the air conditioning was working at its best and lowest temperatures. Nervousness was already getting on my nerves, unable to focus or plan for the next question. Everything went smooth with the interview until now and the HR looked quite impressed as well, responding positively to my logic and general awareness about the field. But the next question, changed my life forever…

Consider the case, where you are looking to find a job in one of the MNCs of your country. The profile is well suited with your dreams and maybe also tailored according to your skill sets. But then also,

“Never underestimate your enemy” | – Sun Tzu (Art of War)

You have to realize one very important point that none of the other candidates are less deserving or less talented from where you sit. Your degree is only second to your passion or intelligence and that is the only point which makes you stand out of the crowd. Your technical interview can be at par with other candidates but still every company looks forward to see a level of enthusiasm and assertiveness in a candidate. A potential that would motivate him to lead and get things done.

Interviewer: Where do you want to see yourself in the next 5 years?

We don’t have an absolute answer either for this but a way to find yours. Everyone has their own dreams and wishes to fulfil but we always feel shy to associate with it. Being confident about what you want to achieve in life is very important and shows your level of assertiveness for a cause. If you wish to gift your parents a BMW, then yes it is something worth to stand for. If you want to be the Marketing head of your company then be confident about saying it out loud. Your dreams matter as much as you do. If you try to be diplomatic in an interview and try to skip the answer with a generic statement then it shows that your motives are not precise. Be honest and to the point.

I answered once that “To be frank my plans may change with time and wherever I am, I look forward to do 5 times better then where I am today and had already proved what I could be in the last 5 years. Also the factor that prove my achievement then would be, if I could see my family under a 100 million roof”

  6. Definitely sometimes It becomes more difficult to give a answer of this question. But we should be confident and not feel hesitation at all to speak frankly. Tell just about your future planning.
