Gates Scholarship 2018- For Undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D
Gates Scholarship is funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which is popularly known as Gates Foundation, a Non-operative private establishment founded by Bill and Melinda Gates.
Gates foundation endowed and supported a broad range of social, health, and education developments including the establishment of the Gates Cambridge Scholarship at Cambridge University and The Gates Scholarship for all US citizens for minority, Pell-eligible high school seniors.
Gates foundation contributes it’s endowed with two scholarships:
- The Gates Scholarship
- Gates Cambridge Scholarship
The Gates Scholarship is a partially funded scholarship for citizens and permanent residents of US. Under The Gates Scholarship (TGS) 300 Scholarships are funded per year starting in 2018 and over 3000 Scholarships by the end of the program. - The applicants for the Gates Scholarship, 2018 must have a CGPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
On What basis Applicants are assessed?
The applicants will be assessed based on their leadership skills, exceptional academic record in high school, and personal success skills.
What is the value of Gates Scholarship?
- Successful applicants will receive funding for the full cost of attendance that is not already covered by other scholarships and the expected family contribution, as determined by FAFSA.
- Cost of attendance includes tuition fees, room, books, transportation, and may include other personal expenses.
Can I use funds from scholarship for off-campus expenses and housing?
Yes, Gates Scholarship covers other personal expenses and recommend the applicant to consult financial aid counselor to discuss educational expenses.
How to apply for Gates Scholarship?
A nationwide search will identify the top high school seniors who qualify for this prestigious scholarship. These students will then be invited to apply. Students must create a MyTGS Profile in order to apply along with:
- Copy of his/her most recent transcript
- Letter of admission to a four-year bachelor’s degree
program at a not-for-profit, private or public university
- Enrollment Verification
- Resume (Optional)

- Applicants must apply for graduate admission, a College funding – including a Gates Cambridge Scholarship – via the University’s Graduate Applicant Portal.

Personal statement asserting their fit with the Gates Cambridge programme in 3,000 characters (500 words)
For Ph.D. applicant, a research proposal is also required along with updated CV/resume.
